Meet The Relay Rockers

Who Are The Relay Rockers & Why We Relay!

The Relay Rockers is a Relay For Life team that works to raise awareness and fundraise for Relay For Life and the American Cancer Society in the virtual Second Life platform and the outside world.

As a Relay For Life team, the Relay Rockers relay for many reasons:

We Relay because the three cruelest words to hear are You Have Cancer.

We Relay to Give Hope to those who have heard those words;

We Relay because those words touch all of us;

We Relay to Celebrate our Survivors and Survivors everywhere;

We Relay to Remember those who no longer walk with us;

We Relay to Fight Back against cancer until the battle is won;

We Relay to Support the American Cancer Society and its programs;

We Will Relay until we can say: We Have Won The Fight. We Have Found the Way to Beat Cancer!

The Rockers Team

Our team is made up of a wide variety of individuals spanning many interest areas, groups and communities. We are a family that has been together many years but always opens the doors to new members.

We have great plans this year as a team and fantastic team members to help us carry out our events. Everyone has a part to play from running events to hosting to graphics to campsite designing. We are all in this together. Our team is made up of a variety of people with varying lifestyles from all over Second Life. We have been together for a long time and know each the strength of one will help carry another when needed. We can go months with nothing more than a casual “hello”. But when Relay Season starts, our Rockers family comes together as one. Survivors, Caregivers, Friends. We are all here for the same reason. To save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer. Our team goal has always been to raise L$1 Million and finish in last place. We do our part and I challenge your team to do yours and help the Relay Rockers finish in last place!

Hi.. I’m Arizona, the co-captain of the Relay Rockers. I have lots of reason to relay – Trader, my family, my friends, you, me. I love The Walking Dead, Grace & Frankie, and schlock novels. On the team I organize RelayStock and help oversee the campsite build. The Rockers team members are encouraged to organize and run their own team fundraising events with their family / friends. What great way to reach new donors and raise awareness.

I was asked why I Relay, I Relay for myself I Relay for my Children and my friends. I Relay for the stranger I just met and one I haven't met yet, Let me take a moment to tell you why, My journey with Cancer. I am a 3 time Cancer Survivor, I know the feeling of helplessness, loneliness, depression. I was there, then a friend here in SL was involved and talked about it and I listened and started to just listen more intently. This person answered questions but also told me what to do and where to get my info from American Cancer Society. i asked questions to my doctor who also told me to talk to my "Negator" and again i listened. Relay is part of that journey, because i listened to you as you speak, I hear thew pain in your voice, the joy in your heart with small victories. Because I listen. And I been there. Every emotion and laughter. Because I Listen. I am Owner of Greased Lightning Club along with my Partner and my strength to talk me thru long endless night when I am sick and alone. Thank you for this honor Renee Riva. Survivor

Madelyn Majestic – I’ve been part of the Relay Rockers team since 2006. I started relaying because a distant family member passed away from breast cancer, but I really didn’t experience what she had gone through. It became more personal the year that Trader had to undergo treatment, and I saw what he went through first hand. It was tough, and I was relieved when I found out he was going to be ok. During the survivor’s lap at relay that year, I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when Trader approached the Rockers’ team site because it had been an emotional year, so I did both and also rode a dancing cow (for reasons). Since then, I’ve had many more Second Life and Relay friends face the fight against cancer and some very dear to me have been lost. Until there is a cure, I’ll be relaying for every person who has heard the words “You have cancer.”

Cancer took a swipe at my sister, she is a survivor, but she has chronic problems since her successful treatment. Therapies are improving, more targeted and gene therapy is improving every year. My Father passed away in 2019 from Leukemia. He didn't battle what he didn't know he had, it took him quickly. My daughter Cereal also is a survivor, I've know many who have been effected by Cancer. Lets Relay, lets win this battle to end cancer! I believe things happen for a reason, so why many years ago Mady and I found T1 and our family there isn't a mystery to me. We know our pixel selves aren't cartoons, we're people, we relay! This may sound childish, but I've thought about what it would be like to have that breakthrough, cancer is gone, can you image the world wide celebration?

I have been in SL for almost 14 years now, been DJing and making clothing for all that time, I find both to be a wonderful creative outlet for me to do something useful and enjoyable. I have been involved in RFL in SL for all that time as well, have been on many different teams, and have worked to help out independent of a team when not on a team. I relay because I want to do what I can where ever I can to help raise funds to eventually, hopefully, stop this horrid disease of cancer once and for all. As a retired RN I have cared for and seen first hand how devastating this disease is for both the victims and their families. If ever there was a “heart breaker” Cancer is it! And it has to be stopped. I also lost my Father to cancer 6 years ago and I helped with his care and watched him decline from a strong healthy man, to a bed ridden invalid in a matter of months.. I just want to do what i can, and I believe in RFL and am so glad I can do some small part through SL.

Annika Braveheart. Hi, my name is Annika. This is my 5th year in SL. I can be found DJing, shopping, hanging with my MC as well as spending time with my family and friends. Relay for Life in Second Life is a cause near and dear to my heart. I have family and friends battling cancer and I have angels whose fights have ended. I want to do my part to help bring us to the day when no one hears the words "You have cancer". I invite you to get involved in the events, join or start a team, take part in the Relay weekend. It is an experience that will forever change you....for the better. GO RELAY!

I have been a Relay Rocker for 14 years, as a cancer survivor myself, I have plenty of reasons to Relay, but I could never do something just for myself. I relay for my Aunt Patti, my Grandmother Betty, and my friend Kit, all who thankfully survived. I relay for both my grandfathers, that did not. Even if I didn't have a personal investment in Relay For Life, I would do still do it. Nothing that kills, and devastates so indiscriminately should be allowed to do so, and I was not made to bend and bow, I was meant to fight, and I intend to. Whether that means raising money, or providing my story, or being there for someone going through it. If it takes the form of providing care, or research, or a helping hand in the darkness, there is no battler too small when it comes to cancer, and every effort helps. We cannot live for only ourselves, and RFL is one of many ways I choose to live my life for others.

I've been with the Rockers for a number of years, Relaying to eradicate cancer. Cancer has touched my family and the families of people I love. I lost my mother in '92, my best friend lost his father 15 years ago. Close friend is a breast cancer survivor. This has got to stop, so with our help and support, the American Cancer Society can work to remove this scourge from our planet while supporting those who are battling it. Together we can make a difference.

Polaris and I, have been in SL, and partners, since 2004. We have been part of T-1 family since its early days. We have been team members of the Relay Rockers for many years. We have both lost friends and family to cancer in RL and SL. One day we hope for a cure for cancer. Relay For Life is a great way to reach that goal.

My Relay story is very personal. I use to care for my mother till she passed away from Leukemia. I use to take my mom to Relay for Life events in real life. I did so until my mother was no longer able to go. I relay for my mom, I relay for everyone who has cancer. I am happy and proud to be a member of The Relay Rockers in Second Life

My name is Angelika Courtois, have been in Second Life since 2005 doing everything and nothing, being everywhere and nowhere. My passion is the (ACS) RFL in SL Christmas Expo, but started relaying in SL in 2010. Outside Second Life I move within the fields of Thanantology, Palliative and Nuclear Medicine. Hobbies include reading foreign books translated into English, historical fiction based on facts, discovering literary marvels forgotten in the public domain, dancing in both worlds, solid discussions. When time allows I dabble in short stories, or write in general, as an outlet to deal with my professional experiences. I relay for everyone because it is simple - I relay because I can.

An RFL supporter since she first joined Second Life in 2006, she seldom says no to performing for an RFL event or helping out in whatever other way she can. Her past RFL performances have included the Fantasy Faire and Relay Radio (both in 2019 and 2020), numerous appearances for the Meli's Maniacs in 2018, and guest appearances for other teams every year. She is fortunate to come from a family where cancer is rare, but she has had friends diagnosed with cancer going back as far as she can remember. Two more were diagnosed in 2020. She relays mainly because she's sick of people getting hurt and dying from this disease and wants it to stop. As 2021 begins, Female's art community relationships continue to grow. She is beginning a new residency at the Haven of Mermaids and joined the Relay Rockers for the first time. In addition, she continues to perform for FOCUS, Campbell Coast, Bellisseria, her Relay for Life team, any other gig that sounds like fun, and virtually anyone who asks her to do a show for RFL. But she really wants you to know just one thing: that no matter who you are and no matter where in this beautiful world you may be, she gives you her best wishes.
